Job Summary
The Erik Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science at The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas) invites applications for a joint position in the Departments of Bioengineering and Mechanical Engineering, at the rank of Associate Professor. We welcome applications from all areas of bioengineering that span these departments, with a particular interest in the area of biomechanics and mechanobiology. Candidates with research interests in cell and tissue biomechanics, as well as prosthetics, robotics, and the mechanics of human movement are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates must hold a PhD or equivalent degree in Bioengineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related discipline and have a demonstrated record of excellence in research, teaching, and service. All candidates will be expected to work effectively in a highly collaborative academic environment. Applicants from related disciplines, such as Materials Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or Quantitative Biology, whose research is relevant to bioengineering and mechanical engineering may also be considered. The position has an expected start date of Fall 2022.

The Departments of Bioengineering and Mechanical Engineering at UT Dallas started in 2010 and 2008, respectively. According to US News and World Report, both departments are ranked 3rd in their respective fields among Texas public universities. Both departments offer BS, MS, and PhD degrees. The Bioengineering Department is the 3rd largest in the U.S. according to ASEEwith enrollments approaching 600 undergraduate students and over 150 graduate students. The Mechanical Engineering department is home to more than 1100 undergraduate students and 200 graduate students. The close proximity to the UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas and our joint graduate program offers outstanding opportunities for collaborative research. UT Dallas is situated in Richardson, TX, one of the most attractive suburbs in the Dallas metropolitan area. The University sits in close proximity to the telecom corridor, home to several hundred high‐technology companies that provide opportunities for joint university‐industry collaborations.

Interested applicants should submit a cover letter; full curriculum vitae; statements of research and teaching interests; teaching evaluations; statement of diversity contributions (outlining how you have contributed to or plan to contribute to, diversity, inclusion, and equity); and the full contact information for at least three academic or professional references.

Priority review of applications will begin immediately and continue until December 31, 2021. All recommendation letters are due January 31, 2022. Both departments have a diverse and dynamic academic culture, and we highly encourage applicants from under-represented groups in engineering to apply.
