Biography
Anzhu Gao, a full-time faculty member at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, has been appointed as a professor and the director of the Center for Surgical Robotics. He is also a PhD supervisor and a recipient of the National Natural Science Foundation for Outstanding Young Scholars, the Shanghai Rising Star Program, and the Shanghai Oriental Talent Project. He has led numerous national and provincial/municipal projects, as well as the Robotics X Rhinoceros Bird Special Project jointly sponsored by the China Electronics Society and Tencent. He has conducted research on robots at Harbin Institute of Technology, the Shenyang Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Johns Hopkins University in the United States, and Imperial College London in the United Kingdom. He has been engaged in research on key technologies for flexible continuum robots operating in narrow cavities for around 15 years, focusing on the directions of flexible robots, continuum robots, intelligent perception and interaction. His research findings have been published in Science Robotics, Science Advances, Nature Communications, IEEE TRO, Soft Robotics, IEEE/ASME TMECH, IEEE TIE, etc. He is also serving as AEs for IEEE TRO and IEEE RA-L.
