Course Description |
This module establishes a comparative basis for the understanding of the physical, economic, and social development of mega-urban projects; and equips the student with the necessary tools to understand and analyse urbanisation problems and governance key issues in localised contexts. The topics to be covered include concepts of mega-urban projects, financial centre development, (post-)suburbanisation, property-led gentrification, governance on urban changes. This module have four aims: 1) to develop a comparative understanding of approaches to the development and governance of urban changes and human settlements; 2) to analyse the dynamics of urban change and its implications on the physical, economic, social dimensions; 3) to examine the role of key actors, and scope for policy interventions in the planning and governance of mega-urban projects in different political and social contexts; 4) to explore issues of equity and sustainability of mega-urban projects. |
