He praised SJTU’s achievements throughout its 31 years of operating in Singapore and its contributions to the economic and social development of the Asia-Pacific region. He expressed hope that the university would continue its spirit of innovation and leadership and serve as a stronger bridge for educational and cultural exchange between the two countries.
Giovanni Spadaro expressed gratitude to SJTU and emphasized his expectations for elevated cooperation in talent development and scientific research. He emphasized that Rolls-Royce places high value on the Asian market, particularly China, and that collaboration with Chinese universities plays a vital role in advancing technology and innovation.
SJTU President Kuiling Ding delivered a welcome address on behalf of SJTU. He noted that the event marked both a celebration of the university’s 128th anniversary and a milestone in strengthening China–Singapore cooperation. The signing of cooperation agreements between SJTU and Rolls-Royce Power Systems (Asia), between the SJTU Singapore Graduate School and China Life Insurance (Singapore), and between the Antai College and SCCCI—as well as the inauguration of the SJTU Alumni Home (Singapore)—will have a far-reaching impact on education, research, talent development, and cultural exchange. Furthermore, the signing also symbolizes the beginning of a new chapter in SJTU’s Southeast Asia strategy.
Multiple strategic agreements were signed at the ceremony. Kuiling Ding and Giovanni Spadaro signed an internship agreement between SJTU and Rolls-Royce with the goal to help students gain more hands-on experience and career development opportunities.
Similarly, the SJTU Singapore Graduate School and China Life Insurance (Singapore), and the Antai College and SCCCI, also signed strategic cooperation agreements. These partnerships are expected to promote joint development in their respective fields.
Mr. Yinghong Peng, Dean of SJTU Graduate School at Singapore, Mr. Xiangyang Lin, General Manager of China Life Insurance (Singapore) Co., Ltd., Mr. Haitao Yin, Associate Dean of SJTU Antai School of Economics and Management, and Mr. Kuah Boon Wee, Core Director of SCCCI and Chairman of Singapore Chinese Chamber Institute of Business, signed the agreements as the representatives of their respective parties. To further strengthen ties between the university and its alumni, President Kuiling Ding and Singapore Alumni Association President Daoxian Liu jointly unveiled the plaque for the SJTU Alumni Home in Singapore. This new space will serve as a key platform for communication, collaboration, and resource sharing between the university and its alumni.
With strong support from its partners, SJTU’s educational initiatives in Singapore are poised for even greater achievements. The university remains committed to nurturing global, like-minded professionals and to the strengthening of educational ties between China and Singapore. Looking ahead, SJTU hopes to further its collaboration with more institutions and enterprises, working together to advance education and drive societal progress.
