On May 28th, the final evaluation conference for the first batch of Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s "International Communication Ambassadors" was held at the Minhang Campus. Organized by the Student Affairs Guidance Committee, ten candidates from seven countries—Russia, the United States, Malaysia, Turkey, Morocco, Bangladesh, and Vietnam—presented their vlogs and speeches on international communication. They shared their experiences of studying and living at SJTU, their insights into cross-cultural communication, and their unique perspectives on international engagement.
With their brilliant performances, two international students --MARWA LAHRECH and MONGMRASA MARMA MANU from the School of Ocean and Civil Engineering emerged as the first batch of SJTU’s "International Communication Ambassadors" in the final evaluation.
Cao Jie, Deputy Director of the Party Committee's Propaganda Department, and Liu Jian, Director of the Global Communication Office at the Office of International Cooperation and Exchange, presented awards to the winners.
MARWA LAHRECH
MARWA LAHRECH, a master’s student of the School of Ocean and Civil Engineering, and comes from Morocco. She is a member of the international student management service team of the International Student Service Center, actively participating in and organizing cross-cultural activities for international students. Besides, she also won the third prize in the Shanghai Jiao Tong University history lecture competition. She has always been promoting exchanges between China and foreign countries through her actions. She hopes to contribute to telling the stories of China and promoting mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations by participating in various activities and exchanges, in order to enhance mutual understanding among different cultures.
MONGMRASA MARMA MANU
MONGMRASA MARMA MANU, a master’s student of the School of Ocean and Civil Engineering, and comes from Bangladesh. Meng Nan is warm-hearted and responsible. In his academic research, he always maintains a sincere and dedicated attitude. At the same time, he actively participates in various cultural activities, showing great enthusiasm and vitality. He ranked fourth in the 28th Campus Top Ten Singers Competition of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. For him, life in China is like a colorful journey for cultural exploration. Every friendship formed and every new experience gained adds a rich and significant touch to his stories of studying abroad .
This selection event highlighted the communication talents of international students through various stages.It aimed to vividly tell Chinese stories and deeply interpret Chinese wisdom and solutions through the unique perspectives and cross-cultural backgrounds of international students. At the same time, it leverages their communication power to comprehensively display the academic depth, innovative vitality, and humanistic spirit of SJTU. This initiative effectively amplified the "Jiao Tong Voice."
The School of Ocean and Civil Engineering has long prioritized cross-cultural exchange initiatives for international students. By organizing study tours and visits, it has fostered mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations and enhanced international students’ sense of identity and belonging to Chinese culture. Capitalizing on this momentum, the School will continue to cultivate high-quality talents with an international vision and strong cross-cultural communication capabilities.
